Description
The Tambunan Experimental Plantation owned by Universitas Sumatera Utara is a strategic asset with great potential as a center for agribusiness and agroindustry ventures in the North Sumatra region. Spanning approximately 555 hectares and located in Salapian District, Langkat Regency, this plantation serves not only as an educational and research facility but also as an economic resource that can be utilized for various business activities. Originally, the plantation was part of a higher education enhancement project funded by the Asia Development Bank in 1983. In 1981, the plantation was handed over to Universitas Sumatera Utara by the North Sumatra Provincial Government, with an initial area of approximately 634.5 hectares. Over time, this area has changed, and by 2003, the recorded size of the garden was approximately 555.18 hectares. The Tambunan Experimental Plantation plays a crucial role in supporting the curriculum of the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara, providing facilities for student practicums, faculty research, and community service. Additionally, the plantation serves as a field laboratory for developing practical and sustainable agricultural technologies.
